This kit recreates the wide wheel version of the German Schwimmwagen in 1/35 scale. It complements Tamiya's popular German Schwimmwagen kit (item 35224) by adding a variant. The wide wheel version had wide tires, an MG35 machine gun and two new figures. ABOUT THE SCHWIMMWAGEN TYPE 166 (WIDE WHEEL VERSION): European rivers and wetlands posed serious military challenges, which led the German Wehrmacht to develop the Schwimmwagen, an amphibious vehicle based on the Ferdinand Porsche-designed Kubelwagen. Its 4-cylinder gasoline engine produced 25hp and gave a top speed of 80km/h on land. A rear three-bladed screw propeller was lowered by hand with a rod and gave a water speed of up to 10km/h. Material shortages meant many Schwimmwagen ran on 133mm tires, but those with wider 200mm tires had superior off-road performance. 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length 113mm, width 42mm. Realistic depictions of the suspension and 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Newly molded parts recreate the wide wheel version's details. 200mm wide tires. Fits general hobby universal fit car parts.
