The 1/48 scale F-14D Tomcat is one of Tamiya's most detailed modern aircraft kits. This 1/72 scale kit brings the same level of detail to the popular 1/72 lineup with a more streamlined build. The Tomcat flew from the early 1970s until 2006. It was first a fleet defense fighter. In the 1990s it took on strike missions, and later that decade the LANTIRN targeting pod let it fly long-range bombing runs with laser-guided weapons. The F-14D was the final variant. It kept the F110-GE-400 engines of its F-14B predecessor and received major avionics upgrades. It reached units in 1992 and served over Iraq and Afghanistan. It was retired from US Navy service in 2006.
