Toyota began as a modest operation before it became a major global automaker. This kit recreates its first production car, the Model AA, which was built by the automobile section of the Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. Released in 1936, the AA still carried the Toyoda name because the division had not yet become a separate company. It became an independent company in 1937 and adopted the Toyota name. The Model AA was a domestic design meant to compete with American cars. It has a stylish, flowing body on a ladder frame and a 3.4-liter inline-six. About 1,400 were built over six years, a key first step for the Toyota brand.
