A 1/104 scale Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune kit molded in blue and clear, with 57 pieces and a length of 10.75 inches. This version is set up for Operation Deep Freeze and includes collectible trading card #2, marked by a gold sticker. The US Navy used the P2V-7 for maritime patrol, mine laying, torpedo bombing, and as a hurricane tracker. HISTORY: During the International Geophysical Year (1957 to 1958), and especially during Operation Deep Freeze, several Neptunes were fitted with skis and flown by the Navy in Antarctica. The IGY was a joint effort by 40 nations to study Earth science from the North Pole to the South Pole. The United States, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Norway, Chile, Argentina, and the USSR took on the South Pole, the least explored area on Earth, to advance knowledge of Antarctic hydrography, weather, glacier movement, and marine life.
