The Technicraft Planetary Gear Box Set from Tamiya reduces the high speed of an electric motor to a low speed with high torque. Planetary gearing is widely used in precision instruments because of its reliability and accuracy. The included RC-260 motor uses carbon brushes for long motor life and runs on 3 volts. Combining the gearboxes in different ways gives eight gear ratios: 4:1, 5:1, 16:1, 20:1, 25:1, 80:1, 100:1 and 400:1. At 400:1 and 3V, the gearbox produces a torque of about 15 kg.
