Moebius Models offers this 1/8 scale EVA Pod as a precision-tooled styrene kit with a high level of detail. Finished, the model stands 10 inches high and measures 11 inches wide. It includes a detailed interior, poseable manipulator arms, and an opening rear hatch. The research behind the kit shows in the full set of interior and exterior decals and the complete assembly instructions. Cement and paint are needed for assembly and are sold separately. Extravehicular Activity Pods, or EVA Pods, are small one-person craft built to work outside a spaceship. They are often used for maintenance and for complex tasks, operated with arm and hand controls. The deep space probe Discovery XD-1 carries three of them, named Alice, Betty and Clara. Each pod is self-sufficient, with maneuvering and life-support systems and a pressurized interior, so the astronaut can work inside the pod without a full spacesuit. The Discovery's onboard HAL9000 computer can also control the pod remotely. When a monolithic object of apparent extraterrestrial origin is found in orbit around Jupiter, the Discovery is dispatched to investigate. Fits general hobby plastic models.
