About this part
This 1/160 scale styrene kit recreates the Orion III space clipper from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The clipper is a luxury commercial transport that carries passengers from Earth to orbiting facilities. Its streamlined, needle-like shape suits smooth atmospheric flight, and computer-assisted navigation handles docking and landing. The 1960s film had no computer-generated imagery, so the Orion on screen was a physical model about 44 inches (111 cm) long, with no lights or interior. Its cabin windows were added optically, and most shots used a still photo filmed again on an animation stand. Only shots of Orion matching its rotation with the space station used a moving model. This kit is an authentic copy of the classic model first released in 1968. Assembled, it is nearly 15 inches long. It includes a display stand and panel decals. Cement and paint are required and sold separately. The box is listed as containing one kit.
