A 1:1 scale Kentucky Long Rifle model kit that measures 4 feet 5 inches long. The parts are molded in brown and brass, with 72 parts and an internal spring. The kit comes in a large box with artwork and includes a rifle rack for wall mounting. The kit copies a rifle made in the 1730s by German and Swiss gunsmiths near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. These American rifles had barrels up to 56 to 58 inches long and were usually stocked in local Pennsylvania wood, mostly maple. Their full-length stocks supported the barrel to the muzzle, giving a steady, balanced and accurate weapon. The design came from the German Jager, with some features of British fowling guns. Gunsmiths added rifling to spin the bullet, which greatly improved accuracy at longer range, sometimes past 200 yards. The rifle became a key tool for frontier hunting and protection, and it played a large part in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, although it was not a military issue weapon.
